Germans have a very demanding tradition when it comes to fairy tales, and therefore reliably recognize a wolf at the door even when it has eaten chalk and stands on the threshold with a kind look in its eyes. So it's worth paying attention to the text of Marco Rubio's speech, then it shouldn't happen that people break out in standing ovations when someone preaches strength and exclusion and reasons about the values that have united nations for centuries, only to conclude that these values are no longer worth anything. It's the old good cop, bad cop game, with the easily transparent goal of getting the unsuspecting victim under control.

The Bayerischer Hof, which was frightened in the most unchristian way by a fanatical Catholic almost exactly a year ago, has now been served an obediently rehearsed speech by a courtier of the American plutocracy. Max Frisch once demonstrated this technique in a play. In “Biedermann and the Arsonists,” the decisive line is: “The best camouflage is the pure truth.” You deliver it with a smile, the warning reflexes are paralyzed, and the MAGA agent has you in the bag.

I don't know what frightens me more, last year's insolence or this hypocritical performance now. The key statements, sorted objectively one after the other, are simply cold-hearted theories, the prelude to a culture war, marked by puritanical hunger for success and chauvinism, and if we are unlucky, by fascism. Sorry, this is not an exaggeration, it is the truth. Anyone who is not white, not strong, not of some form of orthodox Christian faith had better get themselves to safety. The American crusade is gathering momentum. Its minister of war has a monstrous knight's tattoo on his chest. “Deus vult,” “God wills it,” is the message next to it, most recently the slogan of the Thirty Years' War, which dates back to the Middle Ages. – Is that where the journey is headed? God forbid.
